When choosing the right trainer for you and your dog’s issues, It’s good to find out ahead of time, exactly what you can expect from your time and money!
Do You Want Your Dog to Stop Pulling?
Leash pulling makes it very hard to handle your dog on walks. Can you get your dog to stop barking or jumping up on guests in your home? Maybe your dog likes to escape from your yard to chase the children and other animals around your neighborhood?
Personally, I specialize in helping dog owners get past the issues that their dog either brings into a home or with the issues that it has developed while living in the home.
I perfected a method that I call STOP SIT & WAIT
that helps dog owners get and keep their dogs attention. Getting and keeping a dogs attention is the key element to any dog training regimen.
Once you have a dogs attention, you can begin training it to learn what it is that you want and don’t want. I will help you get the results you want and need!
At Way of a Dog, I specialize in helping dog owners to deal with their dogs poor decisions and obsessions that always get them and their owners into hot water.
My method is always individualized.
I work fast and effectively at helping dog owners to turn around their dogs bad behaviors and attitudes. My clients love that I work in their homes and not in a parking lot or office somewhere. Please call or text if you want to talk about your dog’s issues.
Best Regards,
Joe Ozier

#2 Hire a Trainer with the same Philosophy and Ethics as You
When you hire a dog trainer, you are agreeing to their particular method and techniques. That means you will be implementing your trainers guidelines and techniques every day that you work with your dog.
What if the trainer wants to use a Prong Collar or Shock collar on your dog to get it to listen? Is this what you agree with?
That’s how it works…the dog owners embrace the trainer’s methods, and put their faith in their trainer’s principles and tools to get the expected results the owners require.
The owners must trust that the trainer is qualified and experienced in working with dogs. You must also trust that they have your dogs best interest in mind.
I teach dog owners how to win over their dog’s allegiance and loyalty with positive reinforcement and calm, assertive techniques. I accomplish this through repetition and vigilance to redirect and correct your pets actions.
My In-Home Method develops a calmer, more focused pet that results in a much happier dog owner. Just read my reviews!
As a professional In-Home Dog Behavior Trainer, my job is to assess your dog’s demeanor, create a strategy to achieve your goals, and make them happen for your pet.
My approach involves leash training, as well as keeping your dog’s attention through sight, sound and touch methods.
I want you to understand these methods, and trust in your dog trainers as the leader. Remember, I train your dog to be “motivated into listening” so pick your dog trainer well.
Best regards,
Joe

#3 Choose a Dog Trainer with lots of Experience
Some dog trainers are very good at what they do and where they do it. Depending on their specialty, each trainer will have a set of knowledge skills related to their field of interest and facility.
Nobody wants to acknowledge that they have a dog that is misbehaving or jumping on their friends and family. It’s embarrassing and also dangerous for older people and children.
Some trainers work in large training facilities that can be both indoors as well as outdoors. These places are meant to work with lots of people and dogs at the same time.
Would it benefit you and your dog if your dog trainer worked specifically with you and your dog where the dogs issues live and breathe? In your Home?
Now think about Group Training classes, Treat Training, Fly ball or Pet Therapy as a few examples. They are all very different areas of dog training interest.
Are these interests your interests? Will your dog excel quicker in group settings? My experience is providing dog behavior training in people’s homes.
Does Your Dogs Quirks and Issues Cause Family Problems?
Have those issues turned into even worse behaviors?
Typically, dog owners will call me after a serious incident or accident has cost them $$$’s. I say let me prepare you to be ready ahead of time, to correct your dog’s future bad decisions.
Because my work experience is so varied, I’m able to work with many touch cases that others may not be able to take.
Best regards,
Joe

#4 When Choosing a Dog Trainer, Check out Their Reviews First
It seems logical to find a trainer who is recommended by their former clients. They can give you an idea of the trainer’s popularity and the effectiveness of their methods.
You can also quickly find out if a dog trainers past clients were happy with their trainer by reading their Reviews. You might find out who showed up on-time or who maybe arrived late or not at all.
Reviews help others see how they felt respected by the trainer when he came into their home and of how well he treated their loving pet.
Reviews and Testimonials are the highest form of compliment or alert that one can give to the owner of a company.
Way of a Dog-Behavior Training for Dogs and their People has stood for quality and honesty for over 6 years.
I am very grateful for the many honest thoughts my clients said about me and my work. Everyday, I look forward to the opportunity to help dog owners with their dog’s issues.

#5 Choose an In-Home Personal Dog Trainer
Money is always a very important consideration when choosing a dog trainer. Everyone wants to get the most benefit from their dollar. Group lessons away from home partially solve this issue.
Being in a classroom with many other dogs and their people is exciting and yet somewhat intimidating. It’s almost like everyone is competing against everyone else to show how perfect their dog is.
Unfortunately, if you are going to choose this option of dog training, you might be disappointed in the results. However, Prices for these classes range from $50-$150 for 4 to 8 classes a week.
The downside is that each class is only for 1 hour and is designed for everyone to work together. (Dog’s don’t generally accommodate that line of reasoning.)
Personally, I believe there is a place for group training at that beginning level of human dog connection. I don’t think it can help a dog with real issues in the home.
The other downside is the amount of time it took you to load your dog up and drive it to and from the class every week.
Yes, My Method Is More Costly
The upside is that your results are achieved quicker and more permanently. My In-Home training is condensed into only 2 x 3 hour sessions over one week.
After the first 3 hour session, you and your family have the next 6 days to work on the commands and techniques you were shown.
Joe returns for the second 3-hour session to adjust and fine tune your techniques and timing. After that, you are generally good to go with training and connecting to your dog.
In-Home training means that your results are faster and more effective. The process of learning is jump started and much more effective for you and your dog longterm.
The best part is that you are working specifically on your dog’s real issues where they happen. The same issues that happen in your dog’s home everyday.
So, in conclusion, think about the Fast In-Home benefits from Way of a Dog that group training classes outside of your home may not be able to provide.

Joe

#6 Choose a Dog Trainer with a wide variety of Experience
Some dog trainers are very good at what they do. Depending on their specialty, each trainer will have a set of knowledge skills related to their field. Is it is important that the dog trainer you choose have the proper skills to fix your dogs specific problems?
Dogs tend to put their owners through varying degrees of hardship and worry throughout their short lives. Some dogs give us much more for our money in terms of love and companionship than we could ever repay.
Because my work involves dog behavior training, I see dogs everyday with a variety of different issues. Many of these issues and their resulting bad behaviors lead to their owners personal grief and financial outlay.
Can Your Dogs Issues and Attitudes Be Something That Can Be Fixed?
Many people don’t know that you don’t have to “just let dogs be dogs”.Your dogs issues won’t go away until you find someone who can really help you correct what’s going on.
Because my work experience is so varied and personalized, I’m able to work with many cases that others may not be able to take. I deal with Issues like Leash Pulling, Biting, Jumping, Chewing, Barking and rushing a front door when people arrive, to name a few examples.
I have years of experience helping families integrate their dog(s) into their home life. Call me to talk about fixing your dog problems. Let me know when you decide I’m the right trainer for your particular needs.

Joe

#7 Trust a Dog Trainer Who Speaks Your Dogs Language
When you bring a new dog into your home, there are so many important things for it to learn. It must be given information that can be both helpful to the dog and to the owner.
Every dog brought into a home should be taught about the important things that can make life better for it’s owner and for the pet.
Things about where it sleeps and eats and goes to the bathroom are very necessary to a fundamental human/dog relationship.
Dogs Need to Learn Many Rules to Guide Them Through Their Journey with Us Humans.
Rules about what it can and can’t lick and eat and chew on and chase and jump on etc.
If you or someone in your family doesn’t speak your dogs language, then how can you change your dog?
Most dog owners eventually come to realize that they really need to hire a dog trainer that speaks their dogs language. Metaphorically speaking…I speak dog!
Because I understand dog behavior, I can guide a dog into making better decisions about the things in it’s world. I can also help guide frustrated dog owners through the foreign language of their dog.

Joe
